hello my tank has been set up for 3 months now and in the past couple days my tank has been covered by brown algae. i think that the algea is called diatoms. my question is will this algea harm my corals(polyps and kenya tree)

how long did you cycle before introducing livestock?
sounds like and seems like (3 months) you should just be ending your cycle.
Do you have a cleaning crew? snails, crabs and such?
    Post a photo will help. : )

If its dusty brown mostly on the substrate its most likely the diatoms. If its them they last a week at the most... normally. They shouldn't get too think or over take anything too much to "hurt" any of your coral. If they chill out for more then a week let us know. A picture would help too. Their are other more hard to get rid of brown algae. In that case you have some issues... so think of the dust as the "good stuff" for now. Best Wishes! ;D
