I was cleaning the glass in my tank and somehow managed to break my Monti cap in half. It's only about three inches in diameter to start with. Will it live or is it a gonner? Or do I have two monti caps now?

Yes it is. There used to be a big "finger print" in the middle of it from when I tried to stick him on a rock with epoxy. I wasn't aware at the time and pushed right on it and a finger tip size dead spot occurred. It completely healed and is starting to grow more. I hope it lives, this was my first coral given to me. It's been one of those days.. Also spilled a 5gal bucket of saltwater right over my head earlier. I need a beer!

I feel like any person who has ever owned a montipora has broken it cleaning.

As others have stated, if it was happy before you'll have two corals. Congratulations.

Seriously, you can superglue it back together if you want a larger colony, or instant frag. any piece of a monti shoud live.
