Blue Moon Aquatics has taken their nice 90w 15k LED lamp that debuted Marine Depot recently and have decided to go large - very large. Coming soon is a 600 watt version packed with 600 total of the 1 watt 15k whites and 1 watt 460nm blues found in their current model! In between there will be a 300 watt version as well. To those of you that thought their spectral graph looked nice previously, I can say that in person the color rendition was a near perfect blueish white in the aquarium and the fans were quiet. Although the current 90w goes for $499, start saving now if interested in the 600w version as it will be around $2500.

Started saving already. The LED game is looking insane now. Waiting to see how it plays out.

LED is going to be so awesome when they're <$1000 for a decent fixture that yields high growth results.

As nice as this is, isnt one of the points behind LEDS is that they are energy efficient? 600W seems to me to be the same power consumptions if not more then MH!

It is a fact that 1 Watt LED's draw less than 1 watt. Just depends how much less these particular diodes use. I've seen as low as .6 w. So .6w x 600 = 360w minimum usage + circuitry usage. From what I've read the circuit of all LED systems is very efficient about going about its business.

Another thing not yet "discovered" is the output over time. Similar to how T5's were all hyped and we find out their life is far less than MH. Sure their projected "lifespan" is 50,000 hours but what if they only put out a decent par for 10,000 hours. At that point the whole argument goes out the window because the cost benefit is hardly realized by replacement time.
