I bought a blue hippo tang a few weeks ago and he died from Ich yesterday. I have been treating my main tank with a product recommended by my LFS called No-Ich by Fishvet since Monday. I still have a Vlamingii Tang and two clownfish in there. Should I move these fish to another tank? I read that you should keep the tank fishless for 4-6 weeks, but I'm worried moving them may cause them more stress. None of them are showing any signs of ich at this time. Thanks for the help.....

if you can id say move them . let you dt sit for 6 weeks. make sure any ich thats left dies off. and you can treat the other fish alot safer in another tank , that also doesnt have corals or inverts in.

It has been my experience that No-Ich does not work. The only effective treatment is copper based. But you don't want to use any copper in main tank.

Do you have a UV sterilizer?

Thanks for the responses. No, I don't have a UV sterilizer. If I got one, do you think it would be safe to keep the fish in the display tank? I don't have a QT big enough for all three fish.

Thanks, cuttingras. Anyone have any recommendations for a good UV sterilizer for an 80 gallon tank?

I use Aqua Medic Helix Max and the difference is amazing. Not only do you get rid of parasites but you will have a lot less algae to clean.

If your other fish aren't showing signs of ich and are still eating the best bet would be to leave them be. Went through the same problem myself about four months ago. I lost a hippo and a baby percula clown. I did the quarintine and treated with meds but all it did was stress them out to the point of death. Bought a new clown and same thing, a few days after I got him he broke out in spots. So I took the advise of some people here on 3reef and left them alone in the DT tank because he was still eating good, dosed food with garlic and after about a week or so no more spots and havn't had any since. I wish that was the advise I would have gotten the first time around. And yes I also added a UV Sterilizer at that time. So maybe it was the combination of both. Best of luck to ya.
