My Aqua C is great, but if I was going to buy a new one I would be looking at the SWC extreme series skimmers.

mikejrice just did a writeup on the diff between the cone and the standard skimmer. do a search on 3reef, it is a pretty good read.

    thanks, makes sense
http://www.3reef.com/forums/reef-aquarium-articles-how-tos/cone-skimmers-fad-function-84013.html for anyone that didnt read it

i know this is a very general question, but how much more maintenance does mesh wheel require then a pin wheel, and where does the SWC hybrid fall into place. i read on bulkreefsupply that they dont recommend the mesh wheel??

so think i have it narrowed down to the reef octopus, or the swc 160

anyone know the difference between the sicce 2500 pump on the octo and the atman 2500 on the swc???

I would think the maintenance would be about the same but I am by no means an expert on skimmers. maybe mike can chime in on this one.

I have a reef octopus on my 90 and love it. I have a very small bioload right now, but it seems like it will work very well.

The SWC 160 comes with a Sicce 2500. The Atmans are on the smaller cone skimmer. Here's a review I recently did of the 160:

I looked - can't find the receipt! But you can get them under 300 bucks pretty much anywhere. Just try to find free shipping!

Well, my bioload is super light, so I clean the collection cup about once a week, if that. I haven't cleaned the whole skimmer yet, since my tank hasn't been running very long. I don't use the mesh.

what do you think about the maintence on a pin vs mesh wheel??

still thinking that you will get more 160's in on 03/10??

there is a misprint on the swcskimmer site about the pump

I haven't tried the mesh wheels yet, but I would guess it would need to be cleaned more often.

    Yes.

You were correct in the first place. I didn't think about the fact that you could of been talking about the 160 cone skimmer. That one does come with the Atman pump.

ok next question, the octo has a 8 x 10 footprint
    the SWC has a 9 x 7

i am assuming that cant include the pump on the octo, or is the body of the SWC just that much bigger?? (pump is under skimmer body on the swc)
