I need a new pump for my Aqua C EV 240 Skimmer and its recommended to get a Mag 12 at the minimum and if you want to overdrive the skimmer get a Mag 18.

What do you suggest...get the Mag 12 and have it run fine...or go with the Mag 18 and have to deal with an extra valve to fine tune things?

Or if anyone has any other favorite/better pumps please let me know!

    Thanks!

i have the aqua c ev 400 and i run a mag 28. you really want to overdrive that type of skimmer, because it is designed like skirting water into a bucket with a garden hose. with my setup, i still have to close off the outlet valve of the skimmer some to get the water level where it needs to be. so, i could have gone bigger and use the mag 36 and still be okay.
whatever pump is recommended, just go ahead get a few sizes bigger and you will be fine.

    Thanks for the reply!
They recommend a Mag 12 to run fine and a Mag 18 to overdrive it in their manual...
So you think I should go with the Mag 18 huh?

Cool...I am going to order one now.
Do you think I need to put a valve between the pump and the skimmer to control flow into it?

Or can I adjust the skimmer gate valve and other valve on the skimmer to make it work?

    Thanks!

    Here are the specs;
    Specifications:
    • Height: 26"
    • Recommend pumps: 12 or Iwaki MD40RLT
    • Footprint: 6.75" x 10.75"
    • Foam Tower: 6"OD
    • Tank Size: 80-350 gallons
    • JG Fitting: standard
    • Bubble Size: .03–.05mm
    • Water flow-thru rate: 550gph
    • Volume of foam produced: 320cu.in.
The through rate is only 550 gph. Why are you even considering 1200 gph? A mag 7 at most will be sufficent.

That is fine, I guess, but the specifications states Iwaki MD40RLT as one of the recommendations with is only rated at 750 gph.

You're right....that is there preferred pump I think they state in their directions.

Maybe I can valve it down if I have to...hopefully it works out.

i will let you know when it comes in a few days .....

I had a 240 with Iwaki and could never get it dialed in. I added a mag 18 and it still didn't skim well. I think the mag 18 caused to much turbulence.
