I used LaMotte for a long time, I have a Hanna meter. I have been growing SPS for 15 years and nothing is better than plain ole experience. The Hanna meter relies on reagents just like all the other phosphate kits on the market, it just reads the color of the reagent a little better than your eye, and it quantifies it. Numbers are very important to us reefkeepers, but I trust my experience and intuition any day over a test for phosphates or nitrates. I am OCD about ph, Ca, dKH, and Mg though. Phosphate readings have kept me awake at night. Don't be a slave to your test kits. I have been fortunate enough to have own, maintain, & collaborate on many reef aquariums from 24 gallon nanos to 10,000 gallon monsters. In a closed system you will always have some level of phosphate(organic/inorganic) and nitrate. As long as your tank inhabitants are healthy and growing then you are doing a good job.
