Best beginner clam??

    Straying away from the maximas eh :p?

    If you want a clam for the sand, derasa, (easy clam) and if you want one for rockwork placement i would vote Crocea, bit less demanding then the maximas.

    They are all great clams though! Good luck!

    My first clam was a Squasmosa, really cool looking guy and very easy to care for. The only downside to Squasys and Derasas is they grow pretty darn quick and get big. So thats always something you might want to consider as well.

    I have had a Crocea 3 years. It attached itself to a piece of live rock that had a slight depression. That tank only has T5 lights and the clam does just fine. I occasionally feed my coral oyster eggs. Perhaps the clam gets some, but other than that it seems to thrive. I do stir up the sand a bit with a turkey baster once a week or so which puts some sediment in the water column. This may feed everyone as well.
