I am interested in starting a reef tank. Fortunately for me I know that there is more to it than buying some livestock and throwing it in the tank. Is there a GOOD book that I can use to do my research before I jump in?

    Thanks!

There is one at Petco right now called Mini-Reef--I browsed through it, and it reflects pretty much most of what we agree upon here--about 20-30 dollars.

I found books to make too many assumptions on my knowledge...

The best resource I can give is http://www.3reef.com

It's what I used. I spent hours and days pouring over threads. Well, I still do.

Agreed on the forums. This is the best. We dont even care if you ask the same question that has been asked most of the time LOL

I will be asking numerous sump/cycling questions here shortly!

3Reef forums are the best place to get info. Any question that comes into your head, just ask us and you'll get the answer.
For casual reading however, I would suggest "The New Marine Aquarium" by Michael S. Paletta. This was the first book I bought back in 2006 when I first started in the marine world... And I still have it here... Right in front of me.

The Reef Aquarium Volume (1,2, or 3): Science, Art, and Technology

This book is more technical then some books. i have three and found it very helpful. DONT read marine aquariums for dummies... there are some basic good ideas but...thats where it ends.

"Aquarium Corals by Erick Borneman" is an awesome read !!! His style is SIMPLE and methods are descriptive in the variations of reef keeping. It really took much of the anxiety out of it for me. I just found another forum where he posts as well but haven't had the chance to browse it.
