I want to order drill bits tonight to drill holes in my 40 breeder. I am going to be doing the Bean Animal Overflow. What size holes should I drill for the overflow? What size bulkheads do I need to buy? And what size hole should I drill for my return? I am also thinking of doing two returns, should I do two returns or not?

Drill 3 holes for either 1" or 1.5" bulkheads. return should be 3/4" usually.

Check out my build thread. I have a 40B with a bean animal.

Mine too if you want more pictures. Mine is a 144 gallon, but I went with the bean and there are photos in my build thread.

You were the one that first gave me information on the bean animal overflow while I was following your build. Your build is what got me interested in the 40 breeder and the overflow. Still waiting on your next build update. Are your cycling your tank yet?

Thanks LoJack, impressive build and nice wood working skills!

Is a 1" bulkhead the smallest I should go if I am doing this overflow? And am I better off only doing one 3/4" bulkhead for the return compared to two? I am guessing if I did two I would have to get a bigger return pump due to friction loss, creating more heat in my tank? Is this correct?
