This may be a 2 part question... Set up is a 65 gal reef tank with "sea reef" sump with bio-balls....(also an auqaclear 500, powerhead,etc.. ) As my tank has grown
over the years, starting off as a fish only and going into mainly a reef,( now have more corals than others).. with a fair amount of live rock.. it has been suggested to me to remove the bio-balls as they are "too much" biological filtration. They say the live rock should sufice. These same people also say to remove all of the substrate or bed, go on the glass alone. I will agree this does help with some "hot-spots" and trying to clean near or under the reef, but ever picture you see out there has a good 2 or 3 inches or bed.
    recommendations ? Thanks !
