So I bought a new (used) tank today. Its insanely heavy (all glass) and 75 gallons with an end megaflow overflow. Should be fun refinishing the disaster that it is atm.

Thanks. It should be a fun build. Anyone have thoughts on the vortech mp40 vs the tunze? I really like the "undertow" effect the mp40 has but know little to nothing about the equivalent tunze pumps.

I actually have 2 sumps already for it lol. One I bought and one the guy gave me, since he couldn't get it out of the stand without decent effort.

Thats a nice looking tank. Should be fun fixing it up and stocking it with some goodies.

Just after starting the 1st striping layer (Paint in oak grain sucks majorly LOL)

Completely new oak trim, since the original was pine, and I wanted a uniform stain.. so it had to be replaced completely. This is pre-sanding.

The rest are of the finished sanding and prep for staining. I am relatively impressed with my 1st attempt at ever refinishing, anything, let alone a project like this.

A few more photos this time 'round. Thanks to Travis and his fiancée I got the back of the tank painted. If not for her artistic ability with a can of Krylon, I fear I may have had a melt down. LOL Anyways...

This is the stand finished and put back together. Unfortunately, the wood was not all uniform and had some water darkened spots. Being foolish (and cheap) I didn't bother to replace these panels so the stain did not go on completely uniform. Whatever though, I think it looks better than the very damaged black it came to me as.

Here's the color we painted the back.
