artifical fish colors

    i have heard these rumors for years and have never believed them i don't no much about fresh water as i don't do much with my fresh water tank but i have heard for years that many fresh water fish who are really colorfull are injected with somthing to make them like that would you mine letting me know if this is true or not thanks:-X

    Never heard that about fish, but it does happen with corals

    Unfortunately yes it is true--Glo-Fish are actually Zebra Danios (Look at them close). They also dye Parrot Fish---Very Sad, Dont really know how damaging it really is to the fish.

    haha--couldnt be many years I just notced you are 13!!!! Love having people your age here that are interested in this hobby!! Very healthy thing to learn.

    well actually ive been in fresh water since i was eight i just recently started salt water since im old enough to understand the basics

    so do you do both salt and fresh o and yaa i learn alot about salt because my step father who is 10acrewoods on here has been into salt water for over a year now and thanks for the support

    I will post some images tomorrow - today I saw some dyed chichlid species
    they had died them with green and red dye and all the fish in the tank had Tulips (The flower) dyed on their bodies

    the fish seemed healthy , but it was not something I would support by purchasing these man made coloured fish

    Glo fish are not actually dyed. They are that color as a result of genetic mutation. There are alot of freshwater fish in the hobby that are dyed via injection though. Parrotfish and certain tetras are what I see most often in pet stores.
