I'd hope you where not offended by the fact that clams in general never do well under P/C lamps . As for your case thats great But its not the rule , Like my old grand daddy used to say Boy every now and then even a blind hound finds a bone .. I guess you where one of the few lucky ones .. The coloration and species of clam makes a difference also for their light demands . Like the purple color dersasa's are about the most easiest to keep under less then perfect lighting as far as the Tridacna clams go..

You can easily keep even the most demanding croceas under t5ho light, given proper reflectors.

Far too many people under estimate the power of T5's.

If you saw Dr Fragensteins PAR levels on his sandbed (and anywhere else) of his 8x80 t5 lit 180g, and compared them to PAR levels of a MH and t5 lit tank, you would see that they compare quite well. It has been argued that t5s will actually put out more PAR lower in the tank than halides, due to the linear source of light on the t5s.

I would generally agree, since when I had an all t5 lit 35g (3' x 12deep x 17 tall with 3x39 of t5ho retro), I would bake out lps that were even at the bottom of that 17' tall tank. Heck, some acros in my tank got too much light and would bleach out and die.
