doesnt it look like a duncan.
As opposed to cycloseris or maybe even diaseris? I just think it's too small to tell since these genera are very similar visually.
Could possibly grow out to be cycloseris, but I would doubt it. Those have a raised mound in the middle when full grown, but hard to tell right now.
Did you mean diaseris fragilis? I would highly doubt it.
I think we can just agree that it is a Fungiidae, and is one cool HH
I believe some fungia species have the raised dome as well which makes it really confusing.
Yeah Diaseris Fragilis is one of the species, I believe there are others too if my memory serves (which it very well might not!).
I recently got the Corals of the World books by Veron so I've been going through those and trying to practice ID'ing things to see if I can get the hang of the major distinguishing features, unfortunately it seems more often than not there are no major distinguishing features! It's a lot of picky little skeletal details or something that can only be determined once you can view a decently sized colony, or even just judging by the environment it was collected from, ugh hehe.
I agree that Fungia-like or Fungiidae works for me!
Me too. Good luck getting through the series, it was almost hard to put down sometimes, so much information
that thing is growing like a weed now!...its easily 2 times the size it was when i first took the pic of it the other day!
Let's see an updated pic!

Did you ever try feeding it?
Yes and it eats mysis quite readily
