there are some cichlids that are fine for planted aquariums... Angels and discus are cichlids so what cichlids are you referring to?

I'll tell you right now that there are a good few cichlids that you don't want to keep with live plants.
    Oscars for sure!
My oscars seem to entertain themselves often by attacking the plants. I actually think it's hilarious i have an anacharis (spelling?) that is pretty hardy because it takes a good beating often and it's still alive and thriving. In fact where ever the oscar actually rips off a piece of the plant it grows back even greener and bushier than it was before.

Some of the more mild ones are ok with plants but most will destroy them.

The rumors were right in my tank. What a PIA those live plants have been. They rip em up everytime i put em back in... the leaves clog the HOB filter.

    They get everywhere...

    Man, dont do it.

I have 2 albino oscars, about 5 and 6 inches long in with some fake plants now and they dont touch them. The 90 gallon i have set up for them to go in (when my water straightens out) is planted, Hopefully things go well there. But they did have a few live plants in the the tank they are in now before we put the plants in the dig tank and still not a prob. I think it has alot to do with the temperment of the fish alot like a dog, IMO
