Old in the sense that it was introduced at a time where more mechanical filtration was used. It was a more natural way of doing things.

However, most of the components used are still widely used in most tank even though most do not call it a "Berlin Method". Good skimmer, ample LR for bio-filter, DSB for bio-filter. Most today throw in some macro algae to mop up more nutrients. It is probably the most widely accepted recipe these days for a successful reef tank.

Are those glass or acrylic baffles................whats easier, and how do you silicone them with only and inch or inch and a half between them.

You really want 1.5" in between for a total of 3". It makes it more effective.

As far as how you do it... look at the first post of mine.... really you just start taping them into place. You sort of do two so you can get to the middle one then do the last. Really it's easier than it sounds. Just get some tape and go at it. .... others have used books and clamps and other stuff too.

I used acrylic baffles, but only because I had an extra sheet. Glass shops will generally cut you glass to whatever dimensions you need for less. I used a couple dvd cases under my center baffle to keep it up. Like Powerman said though, two at the time and it really is much easier than it looks.
