ive had brown and green algae films on my glass, but now im noticing this bright green algae on the glass that doesn't form an even film over the glass, it forms a weird pattern kind of like the pattern you would see on a checkered nerites or mexican turbo snails shell. does anyone know what type of algae this is.

    thanks
    Joe

That's coraline algae, a calcerous (sp?) form of algae. It comes in a lot of different colors. Very pretty, but as you noticed, hard to get off the glass!

Usually a good sign that your tank is doing ok.

I use a credit card to scrape as it doesn't scratch the glass. HTH

i get the same green alge on mine almost positive its corraline the green stuff grows really slow though not like slime or hair alge. i took a plastic alge clip and took the spring out and just use one of the scrapers to scrape the glass works fine for me
