algae on coral?

    due to a failing protein skimmer for about a week, my corals have closed up for a bit. but it seems some algae has created a thin coat over the polyps, do you know how to rid them of this and get them back to full health? thanks

    i used a turkey baster and just blow them off gently every now and then, my clown likes to move my sand around by his LTA so i just use the turkey baster

    i brought the pump around and it didnt seem to take any off, should i like try to pull it off or something or would that damage the coral?

    That could damage the coral. Just try to keep the flow high to move it off.

    My pump for mine just died today and Noel likes to move sand around in and near her home. I hope you can get it fixed or a new one soon, I ordered a new pump today! Turkey basters are an easy way to remove that algae coat (and sand too)! Good luck!

    i replaced the pump a few days ago, the corals still havent opened yet, i pointed the pump for flow at all the polyps and it didnt even remove the algae??

    which coral is it we are dealing with bvb?

    if its GSP and the polyps are retracted into the hard purple mat they live on
    a new babies toothbrush can be used to clear it off there IME without harming the coral

    If you could post a pic so we could better understand what type corals/algae you are speaking of.and give you the best answer we can...
    Edit...also posting your tank params wouldn't heart either.
