getting some new growth that looks more like a coloration on the surfaces than textured like normal looking algae.

Some is nearly neon green, and some is almost a blue-grey looking.

    Any insight?

I'll see if I can get some decent ones. I have yet to be able to take a decent aquarium photograph.

Gimme about 20 mins to have some pics up and linked.

agreed. Most corraline algae will appear in maroon, red, pink, and purple. However, it is also quite common for it to appear in different shades of green, including the neon green colors of your picture. Your best bet when querying types of algae growth is to first try and rub the area with your finger to see if its slimy, or if it comes off easily. If it feels hard, and does not easily rub off, it is likely corralien algae and nothing to worry about.
The "blue-ish" algae color you were describing might just be a very light green color, that looks blue under the actinics in your tank. Hard to say, but run it through the same "corraline algae test" as previously mentioned.

That second picture you posted just looks like a light colored purple corraline algae, which is probably the blueish grey colored algae you were describing.
I suggest you don't worry too much about it. It doesn't look to be any type of problamatic algae imho. 8)

thank you kindly. I'll give it the "rub" test. If it gets excited, then what? heh.
