Another post regarding algae ! About 7-8 months ago my tank was overfilled with algae. I killed all of it by turning off the lights for a couple months. Now that I turned on the lights a few months ago, it started growing again. I measured 0 Phosphates with a salifert kit (I have a Phos. reactor), I have a ton of snails and crabs, and have chaeto in the fuge. Yet the algae keeps growing.

Anybody have anymore ideas? I think I am going to try a sea hare because I am scared its going to overtake my tank again.

    Here are some pictures

I don't know how much it will help but I cut back from light 10 hours a day to about 9
and the algae in my tank receded a little bit
might help a little but I don't know

I'm no expert in fish that eat algae so i can't help you there

Are you using RO/DI water? If so, have you tested the TDS? If not, get an RO/DI filter. You can find them for <$100.

As for the lighting, when were the bulbs changed last?

    Yup, RO/DI. 0 TDS.

Maybe its the bulbs :uhoh2:. They probably have about 1.5 years of actual use (T5s).

    curious.
sorry wasn't trying to hijack your thread IBMGeek.

I have a sea hare its been great at keeping the algae at bay but be warned they will knock everything over in your tank if it isn't nailed down..:)

I had the same problem back in the day. Mine was just as bad. I bought 10 turbo snails, and it was down to very little withing 48 hours, and completely gone within 1 week.

    Good luck!!!

how big is your system and do you have a tang they will eat the piss out of algae. Other things you can do is take out rocks and scrub them. It will remove algae and anything they are feeding off of. Your test maybe coming up zero but that maybe cause algae is feeding off of that already. But scrub your rocks with old tank water and slowly it will kill it self off trying to recover. keep up the fight and good luck.
