I've been fighting this algae for about two years now after it hitchhiked in. Manuel removal is a down-hill battle. This stuff is tenacious as all get out!!! If anyone has any suggestions on how rid my tank of this nuisance, Caulerpa Verticillata, do tell. I've read that a vlamingi tang should eat it all up, but my tank is only 30 gallons (tiny). I'm thinking of "borrowing" one for a while, but I want to try other options first. My water parameters are great, but maybe it's the algae keeping 'em this way. I swap 5 gallons of water a month, my skimmer works very well, carbon is changed monthly, corals are all very happy when they're not overgrown... I tried a seahare but it never ate the algae so I returned him/her. Also tried mithrax crabs. All to no avail. HELP!!!

My experience tells me that adding livestock to battle algae never goes well. Typically this is a water issue. You may want to pick up you water changes to about 10% weekly. You mention carbon changes. Have you tested for phosphates? Do you have a phosphate reactor?

blue leg hermits and rock boring urchins eat it. for sure. I tested it on them earlier this year. Happy I got a got to use the info, haven't seen this menace pop up in a while...

Oh by the way, if you twirl it up when doing manual removal, (use a plastic fork or fingers, and twirl like it was pasta), it is much easier than picking. I had a whole tank setup for this stuff for like 3 weeks. It does grow fast! Spend a day and just get every little bit or in a week you will be right back tot he drawing board. You probably already know it though. Good luck!
