algae already?

    so my tank has been up and running for six days tomorrow it will be a week, and there is already brown stuff on the sand.. Its so ugly. my sand was perfectly bleach white 2 days ago.. can anyone tell my why this is and what I should do?

    its diatoms,, this is the sign that your tank is finished with the cycle.... test your params..they should be good.. at least IME diatoms is the sign the cycle is over..

    yeah, diatoms grows off silicates in the water.. whenever the silicates are used up the diatoms go away.... if u have cheato in your sump, you should be seeing an outbreak of pods,

    pods and snails and hermits LOVE diatoms..

    I have some hermits in there and I do have some macro algae in the sump so thats good :)

    yeah, the diatoms may get pretty long and take over alot, if u want you can take a turkey baster and blow it off the rocks and sand, also u could do a small water change...

    my tanks diatoms went away in about a week doing a couple water changes in that week time..

    Alright I'll do that then! so far nitrites and ammonia are zero so are my nitrates.
