Recently picked up an acan frag...what is best placement for this frag...tank is 24in tall with 2-250W metal halides...currently frag is 1/4 way up on a rock with no cover to shade it...should it be in a lower light part of tank?

Lower part on the sand is good, some shading medium flow.

+2 for shading. acans dont need a lot of light and will benefit greatly from target feeding.

I also noticed that if you put them up too high that the colors can start to fade. I'd say the lower the better, especially with your lighting.

I think flow is as important if not more important than anything else. Since acans don't rely on photosynthesis as a source of nutrients like other corals, the acan need to eat off of the water column. I've noticed that they acan like a soft undertow type of flow where the nutrients can easily pass over them.
