I have a newer tank and just have snails. Do i still need to be hesitant not to raise the mag more than 100ppm per day of can i do it all at once. Its at 1185 and id like it around 1400. My calcium is 480 and my dkh is 9.

I honestly would bother with dosing mag into your system. You'll cause more dmg than good at this point. Simply water changes with a good salt will replenish any chemicals your system will use.

oh i know i dont necessarily need to at this point but i plan on getting some sps frags soon and would like to get my parameters in check by dosing before i have any corals in the tank so its a little less stressful. :)

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
I do not know of any direct link to raising the magnesium level and how snails deal with the change in levels, but I would error on the side of caution. If you are using IO salt you might every well have to supplement with magnesium, I know I do routinely to keep my magnesium around 1450.

No matter what salt i use, and i use good salt(Tropic Marine Pro Reef, Seachem Reef Salt, Red Sea Coral Pro Salt) i always have to supplement to keep my levels up. And they never seem to test out the way the salt companies claim at a certain salinity.

Thats why you should just strap a calcium reactor to your system and be done with it ;p
