Here is my trachyphylia that bleached when I went to T5HO from PC lights.

Here is an updated pic now that I have the lights better managed.

I have cut back 2 hours for the light period and removed one bulb and change another one to pure actinic.

Whoa! Looks like PC's XRay coral pics she posted a few days back! LOL
It doesn't seem to mind that it has a little color loss though does it? Nice and puffy. :)

Yeah, I just slid back under a ledge and feed it once a week. It looks as though it is adding some in from the spots in the inner ring.

Did it ever get owned. Yeah it has some pretty neat pastel colors now. They actually look to be getting stronger since the tank change.

Tell me now....did it just get bleached by higher intensity lighting? What color did it used to be? Is this a common practice or accidental most of the time? Sorry for all the questions...first I've heard or seen of this.

I was because of higher intensity lighting. The coral evicted it's zooxanthellae, which was brownish purple in color somewhat like the spots in the middle. It was accidental in my case. Bleaching is common and accidental when you forget to photo acclimate corals to higher intensity lighting.

It's almost always accidental, unless it's done by a sadistic reefer. It can happen pretty easily with trachys, as they're naturally a relatively low light coral, and are sensitive to big swings.

I was really worried that it would have problems but it just kept keeping on like nothing was wrong otherwise. Just leaves me shaking my head in disbelief.
