I started my tank June 2015 and as all other new tanks I ran into a few issues which thankfully I overcame with the help of everyone on here and hrs of research. I have learned a lot and even more with 2 nano tanks:)

Advice to newbies: don't give up, don't panic!

My tank is run with an hob filter(not my fav option but does the job for a small tank), powerhead, eheim heater, surface skimmer, par38 24 watt 10,000k 50/50.

    My experiences in 7mnths..

Algae happens but can be controlled. Cleaning out equipment monthly is by far the best thing I learned...my nutrient issues were caused by not cleaning them and now my algae is very minimal

    Don't over feed

Monitor the tank, I don't need to go crazy with it but ignoring it leads to problems

Not all corals do well in everyones systems. I had a brain down to the skeleton in my 15g but it flourished in my 10g! Both tanks have almost identical parameters but clearly the brain hated my 15g.lol.

Don't add too much, never add what you don't test.

My leather just keeps growing and is the pickiest coral!

I have fragged my xenia 3 times already

My zoas frags that started with 4 have trippled and continue spreading:)

My mushrooms have not moved or spread

My star polyps are not a weed in my tank

Over all I have seen a lot of growth

After 7 mnths, my tank is finally looking less bare

Looking good. Try and find a 18k or 20k par 38 bulbs and you'll grow less algae than the 10k. Once green star polyps take hold it will grow fast. I love it though, I have some neon green in my reef.

very nice looking tank! you have an interesting variety of corals. you've done a nice job - maintaining two nanos at your size is certainly not an easy task to accomplish.
