Hi guys! New to this site.. I have a a 4 month old 75 gallon Marine tank. This tank started out as a full blown green spotted puffer tank and was brought from fresh to brackish to full marine. We have recently added a lion fish in this tank. (We also have a snowflake eel and a baby blue spotted stingray {don't worry he will be moved to 175 gallon tank once the tank has filtered.. its new lol}) Anyways, our lion fish was just added 3 days ago. Was eating fine and still is. Noticed today that he looks like he has velvet.. (Looks like he is covered in powered white spots) not 100% sure what is going on. All over New/Old fish are doing just fine. Please advise with best advise possible! Thank you in advance! :)

Well you have some extremely dirty animals in a small volume of water so it is a good bet water quality will suffer. The Lion fish sounds like it has Ich.What kind of maintenace routine do you use?Filtration?
Do not over feed and test water parameters especially nitrate ,phosphate.

Poor water quality as well as confined spaces for the livestock you have can lead to things like ich.

Moving fish from one home to another causes stress which also leads to ich.

Most who decide to treat ich do so in a hospital tank but many believe the treatment is as stressful as the disease.

If it is ich, the only way to really get rid of it, is a fishless tank. Ich needs a host. Even when the salt spots disappear your tank isn't free of it.

    Google marine ich

if it is velvet, the fish will probably die quickly - I would try and remove the fish asap.

Covered in powdered white spots is not a symptom of velvet.

With all the livestock you have in that small amount of water unfortunately I think you will continue to have problems. At this point it will probably do more harm by removing to treat since it's most likely the water quality and stress causing the illness. Also curious of the current parameters and filtration. Is there a skimmer on the tank?
