1: Is it possible, I can only assume that it is

2: Other than hiding equipment and adding water volume, what advantages does a sump provide an SPS system

3: I'm thinking a sps display/frag tank (if that makes sense)--all the corals will be in stepped frag racks and the LR will be on the bottom. A couple damsels and a cuc will be the only other livestock.

    4: Should I give it a shot...thoughts/comments

5: FYI, this is the result of upgrading my 29 to a 40b....having an empty tank is driving me crazy.

Personally I wouldn't put any livestock in it. Run it BB with your frag racks and that's it.

+1 to above. Keep it as simple as possible for a frag tank. You won't need a protein skimmer if you don't get fish or cuc...the only cleaning you would need to do would be detritus maybe if you have rock, well and water changes. +1 to going BB - should be MUCH easier to keep clean.

It can be done if you have plenty of time to watch it. Do perfectly scheduled WC and check params religiously.
