So I have a 20 gallon long with 20 lb of live rock I will be introducing coral a little down the road but for now I want fish. Currently just have some clean up crew in there plus a brittle star. How many fish can I put in there ? I also would like suggestions on fish. I don't like the normal clowns I think they are way to popular of a fish for my tank lol. I wouldnt mind a black and white clown but I mainly want bright colorful fish that won't eat my corals. Any suggestions would be awesome! Thanks ahead of time!

As someone who has a 20 gallon, your stocking is very limited. Ive had 2 kinds of clowns. maroon and black and white. A goby and perhaps another free swimmer like a fire fish or a cardinal is about all i would do. The nice colorgul fish need bigger tanks, hence me upgrading to 75.

I think in a 20g you need a good balance of active and non active fish since its such a small tank.

+1 4-5 small fish is about all you can do if you ask me 40 gallon is best for reef tanks because you can add more colorful fish and doesn't cost as much as a 55 would.

Ehhh. 4-5 fish is a bit much IMO. I'd stick to 3 max.

I had 8 in mine 3 clowns, 2 chromis, 1 goby, 1 Benny and a Charub angel. Everyone was all right until the ich outbreak everyone died exept my one black clown he seems to have recovered well.

No offense, but if 7 out of 8 fish died, than I don't think they were all right. While a 20 is an appropriate size for most of those fish (except for the Cherub Angel), it is certainly not large enough to house all of those long term IMO. 3 or 4 total fish would be appropriate as mentioned.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Knowing what you know now would you still stock a 20 gallon with 8 fish?
