    Hey guys

Im going to be getting into the saltwater aquarium hobby and here soon im going to be getting a 135GAL tank and i would like to know what configuration of light i should use for it.

36 inch fixtures on each side?

    or

    72 inch fixture?

I would prefer the cheaper route.

not sure if im going to do coral only to start or fish only to start but either way im eventually going to do both.

If you are thinking about doing both (fish and corals) chances are that you will. Its very hard going to a pet store seeing that awesome torch and knowing you don't have the lighting for it. I have have a 6 foot tank before and had two 36 inch fixtures. I wish I had gone with a 72 in the end. There was alot of stress on center brace holding two fixtures up. Lighting is the most important part of reef tanks. Going cheap only leads to regret later.

If you can get a 72" fixture with either 6 or 8 bulbs.
