I'd like to propose a contest for the best thread of the year. I also have a prize in mind:

The winner can be announced on new years day.
    Any thoughts or ideas?

That's cool Cheryl. Mine isn't near as personal since I found it on Amazon. It was so well written that most still applies 20 years later. I thought this might be a good prize to pass around each year? I doubt that it has been read cover to cover yet. I've made it half way through.

LOL, I have read that thing from cover to cover numerous times. As well as II and III. Volume III is a bit of a burden, science and equipment wise, I love the second volume very much though.

I think it's an excellent reference book. A must read for the new hobbyist as long as you note that like all science some of the material is now dated. Images alone make it a great book. Nice Tridacna section.
