I am a Review kinda person. I don't do scare tatics. If the color is green I call it green Via review.. Tao Tronics is a decent size company and for them to loose me they will just shrug it off.. I will gather my pride post a review.. Move out smartly and give may hard earned money to a better company in hopes maybe they will be better..

I Finally got a responce from Tao Tronics about 2 weeks ago.. They Wanted when and where purchased Info. So I sent that to them .. Am i surprised that they havent replied.. uuhhh Nope. I am well within there 2 year warrenty so they will probaly wait till it ends.

My Plans ... To use all working stuff off of led hood and build from the frame work that is there.
Untill then Current light will hafta work 150 watt HQI. Installed temp probe in my ole school D.A Reef Keeper 2 plugged In chiller So far working like a champ. Corals have responed quite well with the differant lighting and have taken on a deeper blueish purple hue along with nice tri color on one of my SPS.. Will update as I get the time, or get it working..

    Best of luck..!!

Okay as you can tell from the date of my last Post They never gotten back to me.. Stupid.. Mother...... Snowman builder's.... Everyone I am mad but will keep it adult like..

Like i said i will break it down and try and get it fixed. So i had some down time at work broke the hood down literly to a pile of screws and heat sink and led Board.
I found out the hard way that when trouble shooting Led's with a multimeter and checking for continuity red lead on + side and black lead on - side. If the led is good the Led will glow a little. If it is bad no glow.. Pretty simple procedure. Once I found the Bad Led i used a small jumper wire to complete the circuit and TA... DA!! all the white led's came back on. And fully operational. Now on disasembly i did break a wire connection and will use a small soldering Iron to repair my oop's.. along with repaing of the hood.. I do have some pic's of the hood completely broken down so give me some time and will post them .

    Thanks for reading..!!

Well nice job on diagnosing the problem! Too bad you couldn't get any help, but at least you figured it out.

I agree, the wife and I are real big in customer satifaction and reviews.. If you are going to give a 2 year warranty Flipping HONOR IT..!!! I love to tinker and trouble shoot things. This just give my Macgyver brain something to build and play with..

Well upon looking at Reef Breeder Value fixtures they have the led Diodes that Tao Tronics use.. So i may end up replaceing the bad one instead of jumper wire... Oh the DIY Fun..!!

    10-31-13 Update....

I just order 2 Violet leds from Reef Breeders I am going to unsolder a couple of leds and replace the bad white with a violet one and evenly space a second violet one on other side of led board to even the lighting. Should add a nice punch of color.. I didnt know rebuilding this light was as easy as it is..

I will post pics as i complete the project.

    Thanks for reeding..!!

    And Happy Reefing..!!

    Update with more pics.

More updates... I am waiting for my replacment led's to come in so in the process I did a lil more work on my Led's at work.. lol First pic is me testing a led I moved I wanted to make sure i didn't burn it out I know I talked about in an earlier post. Second pic is I removed 2 led's one on the left side it was a good one I moved so i can put my New Violet one in and in the process replaced my burned out one. Also in the pic look at the top right corner you can see a little red wire that is not connected I resolderd it back in place. And 3 rd pic is the front side of led board with all repairs done and just waiting for the 2 replacement's to come in.

    thanks For following..!

    Happy reefing..!

Update.... All is Done..!!! It's ALIVE..!!! After replaceing the 2 leds resolderd them in and gave it a bench test..!! As you can tell first pic just the Whites with the 2 new Violet Leds.. Second with all leds on.. and 3rd is alot of tiny screws I had to screw in..! lol

Okay I can not tell a lie.. After all those screw was screw'd in I put the hood to gether and tested it again . In all my DIY glory expecting nothing but Pure LED blindness .. I heard a POP and lil smoke.. and a led flicker... ..... A positive wire grounded out on the heatsinc buring out 2 more led's and fried my driver for the Blue's... so now my blues just pulse on me... So I am back to the drawing board.. Such is my life....

At first I was about to say congrats on the fixture being fully functional, but I guess there's still some work to do :p Really good DIY work, though. I couldn't do any of what you did :)

I so thank you for the comments.. But I am not done... !!! LOL.. My C.F.O Chief Finacial Officer..AkA the wife.. We talked over it a bit and figured I was only in the First wave of repair for $8.90. I have found a new 90 watt driver for $30 -$40 and new Led's to replace the 2 newly blew out ones for $8.90. So all I have to do is order said parts and trail number 2 will begin. Now if all is a fail.. We figure we would be out the same amount of $$ if we had to pay for the shippping to and from Tao tronic's in CA. IF they was to honor thier warranty..

    To Be continued..!!

Thanks for following along on this DIY gone bad..!! Well so far.. lol

    Happy reefing..!!
