Had my unicorn tang in a 90 gallon aquarium. He was put in with a mimic tang and after about 2 weeks the mimic died. seemed weird to me as they were both doing so well. Put in 2 bannerfish, one died the next night, and the other died the night after that. Thought it may be my shrimp killing them (Coral banded, I hear on a rare occation they can be aggressive) so I pull the shrimp out, put in a larger yellow eye. I watched closely and never saw the unicorn go after him, but after a week he died. Guess im a bit slow, but I really thought it was the shrimp. I was worried that the yellow eye was the aggressive one as he would on occasion chase the unicorn. Anyway I finally put in a yellow tang, watched from a distance and saw the aggression. Out the unicorn came and into my qt tank till I can figure out what to do. I add 2 fish to my tank with my yellow tang, and the tang decides to start picking at my other fish. Out he comes, here is where it gets interesting. I have another tank, 125 gallon with a big sailfin (5+ inches) a smaller lavender tang (3 inches) and a clown in his anenome and a cardinal. I put the yellow in and he acts like he is going to be a bully. He goes after my Lavender, my sailfin comes out, turns black and lets him know who is boss. Next thing I know my lavender is going crazy attacking the yellow, it was like spike and chester beating up a cat. It didnt take long and now they all swim together and get along great. Never fight at all. My question is, if I put my unicorn in here (4 inches) do you think they would go through the same thing and end up being fine, or is it just a bad idea. I so far dont like the idea of it, as I love my sailfin and lavender. But the unicorn is a tang I have wanted for a long time and I really want it to work. Even though the unicorn wouldnt be the biggest fish in the tank he is strong. So what do you all think?

too many tangs in one tank....
are you feeding algea frequently. tangs are constant grazers and need grazing all the time.
You have to look the body type of tangs, sailfin and yellow tang are the same species and will not get along in a tank that size.

I dont think the unicorn will have issues in the other tank, HOWEVER.....anytime you deal with tangs you run the risk of them fighting, even if they are not similar body types or species.

    good luck

I have heard that you really have to watch the body style, then I see tanks that have nothing but tangs in them. When my unicorn was on his killing spree none of the tangs had the same body style as he did, and most of them werent even tangs. The unicorn wont even touch spirinella flakes, but he will take algea or romain off of a clip. the rest of my fish go ape over spirinella flakes.
So thats one for giving him a shot in the other tank?

He will get with the program. My tangs at the time were finiky like that. But as long as they have something to graze on it will control the aggression also.

Its not Droid, it's me fishies.
