I was wondering if anyone here has had any success with breeding tomato clowns. My pair has decided its time to start laying some eggs.I noticed the male doing some cleaning around my anemone about 2 weeks ago.Yesterday while eating lunch I was watching the tank-like always and the male appeared to be fanning the rock next to the bta.To my suprise-EGGS!I realize the are probably not going to survive but maybe down the road I might give it a shot.So if you have any experience with this let me know.I've got some questions. Thanks as always.

One of the best references for breeding clownfish is Joyce Wilkerson's book "Clownfish". If you do get serious about breeding pick up a copy.

To raise the fry you will need

    1. A cycled 10 gal tank, intially all sides should be covered in some type of black paper or equiv. This is to keep light out. The fry are attracted to light and will gather at the diffuse light and use essential engery that they need to survive.

    2. An simple air stone and pump, with tubing. Dialing in the right amount of flow takes a little practice.

    3. Heater.

    4. Food, this is where the fun begins. Most people do Rotifer cultures, which is an undertaking in it's self and requires practice. There are some newer foods out there but I am unfamilar with them. Feeding the fry is a declicate balance of keeping the food alive, and feeding just the right amount.

It may seem somewhat daughting and it is initially but after several attempts it becomes routine and you will get some fry to show for the efforts. Every breeder does it a little differently but this is a basic outline.

I hope you give it a try. :)

They will spawn so often you'll be saying "there they are again". It really is fascinating to see them put so much care in reproducing. Do you have other fish in your tank? I would assume so. It would be interesting to see if someone could raise them in the DT. Chances are slim though.

Don't worry, you'll be feeding your tank soon enough. Get the Wilkerson book. Easiest to follow guide there is.
