ya, it was tough finding info about this, because it's not really common - lucky me, I always get the funny problems in my tank... :-/

I feed twice a day (mornings & late afternoons), with a pinch or two of flake, and a measured amount of PE Mysis, and Spirulina enriched brine. I'll also occasionally drop in 1/4 sheet of algae for my tang and blenny, and a clam halfshell for the Copperband and wrasses.

I have actually started (as an experiment) dosing PO4. I'm about week in with 1mm per day, but results are somewhat inconclusive so far. I figured at the rate of 1mm per day, it would take 1 to 2 weeks to start seeing some results (good or bad). Once I have something to show, I'll post a thread about it.

I don't regret using BP - they do work. But - they do need some attention to get them dialed in. As with any method you might try to control and export nutrients in your tank, they can lead to other issues but that doesn't mean they will.

I would say there area lot of people using BP successfully without issue. I was just "lucky" enough to have an issue.

    Never regret!!!

    How are things going?

The vast majority of people do really well with ecoBAK and I 'm sure you will too. Just follow the #1 rule of Marine Aquarium husbandry, "Slow!! Take everything slow!! Oh and then slow down a little more..."

How is the experiment going? I've certainly seen a few NO3 and PO4 limited systems...

It's been quit interesting. I've been in the midst of this experiment since the 17th of last month, and I'm now into what I would call a "maintenance" dosing regimen, meaning I'm not dosing daily.

I have a 125 with a total volume of about 140gals. I started with undetectable PO4, slow to no Macro Algae growth. I dosed 1ml per day for 8 days until the PO4 peaked around .05ppm, as which point I stopped dosing.

within a few days of starting, I noticed the BP getting a little more sticky, and the Skimmate production increasing. I also noticed that film algae on the glass was less than usual and on some days non-existent.

Nitrates did not reduce as much as I had anticipated. NO3 went from 20-25 to around 12ppm. Once PO4 peaked though at around .05, it went from .05 to undetectable again in just three days.

At that point I started dosing 1ml ever three days, which is where I'm at this point in the experiment. I've got a bunch of notes, and photos of all the test results. so once ive been doing it for at least a month, and I'm confident with the maintenance dose, I'll create a post.

in the meantime you can check out the test results here - the experiment stated on the 17th of July
