Here is a shark video that it was posted on reefbuilders. As they did on their website let me pass along the warning before you click on the video:

"Warning: Video does contain harsh language, profanity and shark finning. It may be disturbing to some viewers"

But since we all have a passion for reefing and the oceans I think it would be good to spread the information and if you feel entice to help you can always donate to the cause or simply write a letter that is already set up with a template. This is sad and terrible, especially when is a cultural issue that is driving this horrible act.

I hope it doesnt offend anyone.

That's terrifying, what they are doing in order to get just the fins for shark fin soup in restaurants. :(

It's interesting to see though, Chef Ramsey beginning a campaign in order to prohibit this on the menu in Chinese restaurants. Props, to him.

PS - thanks for the heads up about graphic content...

Yeah, sorry for the graphic nature of it, but its so sad I think people need to see it.
Its sad there are people trying to ban ornamental fishing in Hawaii but somehow this is OK?

I think the fishing of ornamentals in Hawaii is a more widely known topic. It seems like one of those topics where people like to quickly jump on the bandwagon. "Save the reefs, save the earth."

On the other hand, I had no clue about this before watching the video. I knew there are Japanese (maybe some others as well, I don't know) who fish heavily on dolphins, but I hadn't heard of eating shark...

It's tasteless he says, more like plain noodles.

it's really not worth it, cutting a shark's fin and leaving it suffer to death and offering it that expensive and you end up eating a tasteless recipe, even if it tastes like chicken, not worth a shark's suffer, sharks are really really powerful animals, large species could very easily kill and eat humans i just hope someday coward people like these would give the respect sharks deserve from humans.

The draw is that is it a status food. I guess like caviar for the asian population?

The fins are just cartilage so of course there is no flavor....it's like eating a pig's ear. Of course, people who sell shark parts also claim it holds the potential to ward of different diseases and keep you healthy.

Everything doesn't taste like chicken. I wish people would stop saying that.
