Personally I never had RTN result from too much light. Usually just a quick bleaching of the coral. Yes you have a lot of light, but RTN from that I do not see.

Do you see PE with either new coral?

They could have been traumatized during shipping with big temp swings and the result is tissue loss.

As long as you see some PE either at night or during the day I would not change the flow yet. My Valida shows the best PE at night.

If they loose color move them down some and perhaps consider a different dip.

Please let us know how it goes.

Thank you for the confirmation on the lights. There are 6 branches total extending from the base of the coral. The base between 2 branches is dead. RTN seems to just be running in streaks in a couple of the branches as I said before. Since moving things a bit and redirecting flow, I have noticed that even on the branches experiencing RTN I have good polyp extension. Lights at full power. Individual Polyps, that actually have the RTN approximately half way up its side are extending their polyps as well.

Crossing my fingers here and knocking on wood..... After watching the last couple of hours I am hesitant to say it appears the RTN has slowed. Maybe not the right light or flow? I am blasting this coral with flow right now. Should I continue this?

Color on the entire colony is actually good. Better on some branches but for the most part it is maintaining its color. No browning etc. Do you suggest anything else? Thank you

I would not blast it especially if you are using an MP for flow. Mod flow should be ok.

Hopefully it will resolve on it's own.

You can always try the super glue gel trick, if it gets worse. Remove frag apply super glue gel to all the exposed skeleton and right up to the good tissue boarder. Other wise you may have to frag it. All tough choices.

I am using a 1100 gph koralia. I am hoping it will stop as well. Am attaching a picture. I dont want to reach in the tank and move it so you can only see the RTN on one branch. It is on 2 others all on the right side. I am considering the superglue trick. Never done it but I might.

Here is a picture of one of the branches with RTN. Note....the white spot in the front is actually rock. Not dead coral. However, the white spot near the base at the far right of the coral is dead coral.[IMG]

    Thoughts?

Did you break it off the plug and attach it to one of your rocks or is the mount I'm seeing how it arrived to you? If you glued it, what did you use? An epoxy stick can give off a lot of heat when it cures and cause what you see here; just wondering if that may have been what happened.

That is the way I got the rock. I didnt do anything except put a small amount of glue on the bottom of the rock to keep it from sliding off the shelf. This morning @ 0445 hours before I left for work I took a flash light and checked things. The RTN had not progressed any further at that time. I will check in a few hours when I get home but I am really hoping it stops.

I just wanted to write a quick update on my pending panic attack. When I got home from work today I of course went straight to the tank. There is little to no continued tissue loss on the Acro. The areas where I made mental notes on the tissue loss and comparing to my picture shows the RTN has (fingers are crossed people) stopped.

What I did.....I moved it directly under a halide bulb and placed it at mid level. Before it was "between" two bulbs and slightly lower. Secondly I moved a powerhead and increased the flow greatly. I pointed an 1100 gph powerhead directly at a rock near the Acro. This way I am not directly blasting the coral but still getting a very strong flow from deflection. Lastly I did change out my GFO in my reactor. I dont know if this actually helped or not but it did make me feel better. I am going to keep my eyes on it for the next few days. I hope it continues to recover and the tissue loss is reversed completely. I am aiming for stable params and I likely will be testing almost daily this week. Now back to that LED build I got goin. A special thanks to Corailline for helping me keep my sanity ;D K+ to you!

    Great news.

It's a really nice piece, I like the coloration.

You are going to have to put an image of the Millepora some day because they are my favorite.

Good luck with the LED build.

Thank you. I am going to monitor that guy. The purple coloration unless I am mistaken is actually a sign of stress. So "blue" is what I am aiming for.
I believe I made a mistake on the ID of the Mille. I think it is an Acro Prostata not a Mille. Similar but more slender branches. I would be happy to get some pics of it up as soon as I can. Thanks again.
