So I have found myself looking at getting a fish for my child and am thinking he would like a betta. Since we can easily get a small tank for his room which a Betta would thrive in and the attitude of "I keep a reef, I should have no difficulty with a betta" we figure this would be best.

Turns out FW information is not as abundant as SW. Or at least that i could find.

So my main question is, since I am only finding that distilled water is not good for Bettas and also that well water has the potential to kill fish if certain things are in the water, if my options are rodi or fresh from my possibly contaminated ground, which water source should i go with?

As a side note, I am not willing to try to find someone to test my well water or pay for it to be done. This is why I use RODI, so I don't have to care what is in my well water.

    what water do you drink
    your well water?
Or do you have public water?

whichever you drink or make ice with is certainly usable for a betta.

    No public water.
I definitely wouldn't drink my well water. I am fairly certain it would not kill me though
I figured RODI would be good for FW application but everywhere i look it tells me to use "tap" water and dechlorinate it. But i don't have the "tap" water the city provides most people with.

I guess i can't find too much info on FW keeping because most people buy them and toss them in whatever water they have since they are cheap enough to replace.

My kids have a 10 gallon in there room and all I use is RODI water. No issues. Less algae overall I think. But I have an RODI system so its easy for me.

Well you could always use the waste water coming from your ro unit. Since the waste water does not go through the di I think it would be usable. You probably are going to have to purchase ph up to get it to correct level but I do not remember what ph they like.

My kids have had a couple bettas over the years and yes we just use tap-water which our water is 300+ TDS from what I remember.. I do not drink our tap water either.

RODI is easier for me too.

Maybe I will try the rodi and if it fails then try to fix it at that time.
