pH

What's is a good way to buffer pH. I removed the hood on my tank about two weeks ago and my pH has been slightly low. It's been at about 7.8 to 8.0. Use to run at about 8.2 I'd like it so stay about 8.2 to 8.4.

 

The better the gas exchange the more stable the ph will be. I've never had a ph issue since dosing alkalinity with calcium and magnesium keeps it up and stable. You can try pointing the powerheads up to cause more surface agitation. Aqua vitro makes a product called balance that works well but just make sure your testing while dosing.

Don't chase numbers when it comes to ph, it will drive you crazy. To be honest, I don't check it but every couple of months. I'm more concerened with keeping the big 3 stable and the other will follow. Unless you notice something very wrong with the tank I wouldn't bat an eye. The test kits aren't always truthfull. With your other parameters where there at, I'd say your just fine.

You will find that almost all low PH problems come from atmospheric problems. When your windows and doors are closed co2 levels rise. Some people combat this by piping the air venturi on the skimmer to bring in fresh air. I wouldn't worry too much about PH as long as your values aren't dipping to low. Keep in mind though that like Alkalinity PH will fluctuate. Before lights on in the morning will be lowest while right after lights out will be highest.☺
