Open Brain Coral Questions

Hello, Ive never owned an Open Brain Coral before and I have some questions about it. I try to feed it but it never really extends its tentacles and does it look healthy? I think it looks deflated a little not sure if thats good or bad. Its been in my tank for about 2 weeks now. Any help is appreciated

 

It's not looking good, the tissue is receding. Do you know what your parameters are? LPS coral like trachys are sensitive to alkalinity swings, stability is a must. I'd stop trying to feed it and get a baseline of your parameters.

 

Dont know running into town tomorrow to buy a test kit. What would this most likely be caused by?

Did you purchase it in that condition or is this the condition after 2 weeks in your tank?

7yrs ago I purchased one(looked in the same or worse condition), I was a newbie and didn't realize it was deflated and almost to its skeleton. After 2 mnths it was gorgeous. Lfs sold me their dying coral

DSC said it best. Test all the parameters and then post them. It could be something is low or too many swings. My one brain started receding and that was a sign something was off....my magnesium was low, my ca was low, alk was fluctuating.

Oh ya, what is your lighting type?

 

The tank is over 3 years old and im running a kessil a150w. This morning the blower i guess you would call it fell off and the open brain swelled up mabye too much flow to that area of the tank? Or the piece of the blower fell on it and irrataded it?

 

The part of the tank that i placed it has medium to high flow could it be the flow?

 

Hi flow could contribute to issues but I still think the wster needs testing

 

Bought the wrong test kit going tommrow to get the right one. Does this look like an improvement?

 

Could it just not be aclimated right yet? I have acan corals that do just fine. Do they need different levels of alkinity?
