One fish has ich with the others get it?

It is still safe to assume that the dt has ich and any new additions or stressed fish may have an ich outbreak while healthy, unstressed, and established fish will be unaffected. It is possible that the anthias may never show signs of ich. It is also possible that even after a successful qt treatment that the tangs come down with ich again as soon as they are put back in the dt.

Not sure how much experience you have but I would suggest learning the life cycle of ich if you don't already. White spots on fish is the only time we can actually see it. And just because we can't see it on a fish, doesn't mean it's not in the tank in another stage.

If the tang was in the display, I do not see the point of treating it in the QT and possibly stressing it more. JM2C

I would bulk up his diet, and hope for the best.

Now if the tang had not been in the display already it would be a completely different story.

 

I agree that a uv sterilizer should help kill free-swimming ich that passes through it. And it's (mostly) reef safe unlike chemicals or hypo.

 

I hoped for the best before and every fish died so I am going to try and treat this one and I am putting him in the QT because I have coral, snails, and shrimp and can not treat the whole tank.

A UV is a good idea.

Do what ever you feel comfortable with, but by treating the tang in isolation and re-introducing him back into the display, basically you are just chasing your tail.

I am not advocating treating the display, but rather reducing all possible stress if appropriate and bulking up the diet.

Well He will get better in the QT and then when he is healthy again I will re introduce him into the tank and see how it goes. I don't see it as chasing my tail because he will be stronger when I put him back and have a better chance than he does now. and it is free to treat him anyway

 

a uv will help your tank in many ways. for me i feel its a must have item.

 

if the tang that needs to be treated is already in the tank, trying to catch it will introduce more stress, especially with hippos that like to hide in between rocks sideways.

if they're still eating fine, then it should still have the chance to fight the ich off on its own. perhaps giving it food with garlic, and lessening time the lights are on to reduce stress are your best bet.
