I just set up my brand new Odyssea 700 canister filter from Ebay. I figured at 98$ and free shipping it was well worth the try. The way I have the filter set up is complex and my previous Penn Plax 1000 canister couldn't handle the amount of tubing it had to be pumped through and could not keep a consistent pressure. This pump well maintains pressure and some. It is set up on a 55 gal tank. Filtration starts by leaving the display and entering the Odyssea 700, when it leaves the 700 it enters a GE sediment filter converted to a co2 diffuser. It then leaves the sediment filter and travels to a split return. the split return travels down two lift tubes and below the under gravel filter where it is expelled pushing detritus into suspension allowing it to be removed and starting the process over. upon start up the pump is so powerful it lift rocks off the bottom of the tanks. I use river rock not aquarium gravel.

A few things are different from the reviews I have read of the Odyssea 500 and they are as follows:

    1. The lid issue seems to have been resolved, flexible plastic and re-enforcements are in place. However I still will use large washers under the red screws just in case.
    2. The UV sterilizer is very bright and the seller supplies replacement bulbs for use on the 700 on his ebay store
    3. The pump has a special cut black foam ring around it helping to provide 360 degree filtration without any DIY or modification
    4. The other pads are very tightly seated against the inside of the filter further assisting in 360 degree filtration and the clear body makes this evident
    5. There are on/off switches for both the UV and the pump
    6. The hose adapters are easy to install and very easy to turn on and off

Nice detailed review. Where is the UV located exactly?

In the center directly above the pump.
