There's been a lot of talk lately about SWC Skimmers newest line of cone skimmers, and we finally got a good look at a couple of the new monsters. This week we managed to get some up close time with the 320 cone and the 300 cone, and they don't disappoint!

The 230 cone is the first to be designed with a Askoll pump built into the bottom of the skimmer. This helps it to save space and still sport one of the best pumps on the market. Build quality is top notch as always, and being that it is one of the newer designs they made it easy to take apart and clean just like the 120 and 160 cone models. The 230 cone is rated for 300 gallons on a medium bio-load, so it should fit the needs of most large tank reefers.

The 300 cone is as monstrous as the name implies, and with it's new cone shape, I'm sure it's going to turn some heads. This skimmer takes cone to a whole new level and runs the conical shape all the way up into the collection cup. This means more stable foam where it's needed most (in the riser tube.) The 300 also comes with an Askoll pump and is rated for a hefty 400 gallons! As is the theme with SWC's new skimmer line, the 300 detaches from the base plate via thumb screws and disassembles fully for ease of maintenance.

Very cool! I love the look and build quality. I am in the need for a good skimmer for a 40g breeder build. It will be loaded with SPS corals and for fish it will have a medium to light bio-load. Any recomendations? I am looking into the 120 cone. Would that be over kill?

The 120 cone would be perfect.

I was looking into the classic Xtreme 160 for a 75 gallon that will be heavily stocked with fish and corals would this cut it?

I have been looking at the 230 Cone for a couple of weeks for my 225 Build. Still undecided. It's between this, and a ETSS 600XR.

I would go with a 180 cone or Xtreme 160.
