You're lucky. Here is my thread on losing my maxima. Sad miss it. Also I haven't been able to find small clams at LFSs. If I could id have 3-5 clams in my tank. Love them.

I hope the case is closed. Jane is still not well, but not actively declining. I plan on doing some re-landscape and possibly build an ultra-secure location. The sandbed seems to be ok for now, but I'd really like to get her closer to the light. I'm maxing the lights at 90%, but that strength is only 2 hours a day. A big clam like Jane needs all the light she can get.

 

How are you going to build the secure place for her?

 

Clams move. That's going to be hard. Mine moves all the time.

 

I'm going to re-landscape my tank. I think the clam fell because her rock was slightly tilted when I kind of threw everything back in the tank during the epic tank move /fishroom build. I have a rock shaped somewhat like a baseball glove that will make her very happy and close to the light. I'm also going to sell one of my RBTA's to give her more real estate.

If my coral could talk they would say "keep your damn hands out of the tank!"

 

A quick tip: you can also glue rocks (rubble) around for more protection.

Ya, I'd try to make a pocket for her. If she doesn't like the spot, she may try to move again.

 

Be very careful in wedging or forcing in any spot. If a clam isn't happy with its location they move to where they want to be. Flow and lighting play a big role in that. If you trap a clam in a spot it's not happy it will die in time. Your clam may never attach to a rock so it's risky to say the least. As big as she is I vote for the sand bed. I have to disagree with others, wedging or gluing rocks to hold your clam in place is a bad idea.
