so the title pretty much says it all. i plan on building a tank stand using 2x4's for my new rimless 65 gal 48x18 glass tank.

    1. Is styroform necessary if there are no bumps, nails, objects sticking out of the bottom of the tank?

It was custom made rimless tank.
    Glass.

I always heard that rimless tanks should use styroform. But I am getting mixed opinions. I would like to avoid using it as it would make my tank look "dirtier"

I've heard to use Styrofoam on rimless too. I have also heard from some tank builders not to use it on their rimless tanks. I would use it on a rimless though.

Over on the Dark Side- RC, I was asking about it for my stand I just built for my 180 glass tank.

The OP of the stand thread basically said never a good idea, on glass tanks anyways. ? ?

I think the tank maker should have an opinion?

For rimless you absolutely need it.

For rimmed you should definitely not use it.
