Is My Scolymia Healthy

the coral should normally swell up and remove them himself. at least iv seen my lobo do this. personally i would be dead scared to damage its tissue by trying to remove the sand, but thats just me. if its getting regularly covered with sand by a sandshifter fish then thats another problem i think

 

Yeah, I was just thinking I would use the turkey baster to gently move the sand, but we're only talking about a handful of grains.

With some feeding and adjusting of parameters, it seems like my scoly might be on its way back. The first photo is from 8/27 and the second photo is from today (9/1). After 5 days, it looks to me that the receding has reversed and the scoly is a little "fuller." The difference is subtle, but I'm encouraged by the direction of the change.

 

it does look like it extended a little further but dont get your hopes up just yet...sorry to be party pooper like that

 

Keep it stable in the tank, keep it fed a couple times a week and you'll be good. I lightly blow off sand with a turkey baster when some settles on my scoly, never hurts it, just be gentle. Just keep your hands off it Also, keep it out of direct flow.

 

I fed the little scoly a combination of reef roids and mysis tonight. Took a couple of photos while I was at it.

 

Here is my scolymia on 8/27 and then today (9/14). After a few weeks, it's starting to grow back. Slowly but surely. I feed it every few nights.

I noticed there is a bristle worm loving underneath my scoly. It comes out every time I feed it (mysis). Tonight, the bristle worm crawled right up the side of the scoly and toward the mouth while it was eating. I brushed it away.

Could this bristle worm be causing problems for the scoly? Should I think about dipping it in Coral Rx?

 

good stuff! i wouldn't dip, you'll cause stress by handling it and you've done a great job bringing it back, would be a shame. i doubt the worm was the culprit

 

I noticed the last few days, the scoly will have its mouth open. In general, it is looking healthier every day, but this is a new behavior. Is the scoly simply wanting food? I assume it won't be able to eat unless the feeder tentacles are out, or can I simply place some food right in the mouth?
