How to identify ICH

how long ago were the clowns added and were they added together?

 

They have been together for a few months. Now I did have a clown goby I bought a week ago, this fish wasn't quarantined like I would normally do. I only water acclimated for 45 min to a hour and placed him in the tank. They next day I noticed he had white blotches on it. I brought it back to my LFS no questions asked and not trouble on the return. The guy that worked there gave me a conditioner for my tank and I added it. Didn't run my skimmer for about 5 days. Yesterday I did a 1 gallon change and turned skimmer back on. Now today I looked in my tank and the fish seems to not have any spots on it anymore. The sandy salty spots appear to be gone.

From what I've seen and read over the years, it seems apparent that fish can sometimes display spots in their coloration (from stress, perhaps?) that can appear as potential ich parasites.

 

Sorry I'm late but just wanted to update. My clown that I thought may have had ich doe not. He is alive and very happy. Sorry for such a late post.

 

that is great news! I usually take the wait and monitor closely approach when I suspect something is up. I used to freak out but age has mellowed me

 

Yes, unfortunately I'm struggling with the waiting part sometimes lol.....

 

Ich is a tricky parasite. Ppl often think the parasite is gone when the white spots disappear but that is not the case. The white spots last for only a certain period of time but the parasite is still existant in its cyst form. These cyst can attach to corals, rocks etc.

It often shows up during times of stress and fish that aren't in great health usually succumb to it. Clowns are really hardy and usually are ok.

I recently added a fish to my 10g and within a few days white spots showed up. Then my purple firefish got it. Neither made it
All my food is fortified with garlic and my water conditions are good. I now have a fishless tank for 6 weeks. A tank must be fishless for 6 weeks to rid it of ich.

Keep an eye on your fish and try not adding another for a bit just to make sure your current fish are no longer stressed.

 

Thanks for the info.... I have been watching both of them. It's been a few months and I just added two chromis. All is well and happy.
