I have been wondering this same thing myself, even down to target feeding makes me have to constantly put my hands in the tank. I have wondered frequently what damage I am doing. My husband is also forever touching things in the tank. It doesn't appear to have harmed anything yet, except that I have a frequently annoyed road stool.

Toadstools and other leather corals are probably the most sensitive. They do not like to be touched.

Justified Aquarium Intrusion, no points off.

Hobbyist/members like Civic have stunning tanks and they pay no mind to this concept.

I however feel/believe that less your hands are in the tank the better. Being aware is half the battle April, I doubt yor or your hubby are causing any long harm.

Hmm never thought about the spouse variable.

    Yup.

My corals close up when my hands are in the tank, simple protective mechanism perhaps and likely.

Well my TOAD stool (not road stool) used to be beautiful and trumpet upward, now he's in a forever state of pissed off (pardon my language). He opens but it's not quite the same.

Yep, let me tell you about the spouse Variable....... Lol. just kidding, let's just say he has less inhibitions than I do.

Let's try again, he's actually like a kid in a candy store, he loves everything he's sees. We differ in that I read everything I can, and joined this fine forum to learn so I don't kill everything he sees lol! He chooses to read vicariously through me.

Mine is not, he is color blind, thinks the corals are just rocks. When a package arrives I tell him it's another plant, this method of covert operations has gotten me though the last 10 years. If he stuck his hands in the tank I would probably faint. All he cares about it the light fixture reflection on the TV at night. lol

So I really did try to not put my hands in the tank tonight. Well almost made it. I walked by the DT and my Lamarck must have gotten spooked as it jumped. Went right in the overflow. Good news is it was near the top and like Ninja reflexes I scooped it right out with my hand and its now peacefully swimming around.
