Help! Clam Closed up Tight

    Definitely! They can be finicky just like different species of corals. Unless the mantle is gaping and transparent, there should be nothing to worry about. Probably just settling in or having a bad hair day ;)

    So he still won't open. But I've noticed when the lights are off he has his mantle slightly out, though his shell is still closed. When the lights come on his mantle is pulled in tight. What is that about?! Before this he loved the light and had a big floppy mantle!

    You don't have anything bothering it during the day do you, a fish nipping, a shrimp climbing all over it, etc?

    Nope, nobody bothers it. I did put a fairly large coral kind of near him a few days ago...could that be upsetting him? It's not towering over him or anything, just near him.

    Good point. It could be an allelopathy issue.

    Favias are ultra agressive. I don't think they use allelopathy, but I wouldn't doubt it's bothering the clam.

    Hmmm okay. I'll move the favia and see if that helps at all. I mean it's not that close to it, but it's really the only change that happened right before the clam closed up. So it's worth a shot!
